Frequently Asked Questions

How familiar/comfortable do I need to be with my firearm before coming to one of your courses?

This all depends on the course level you have chosen to take from us.

For our Introduction To Handgun course you can bring a firearm you have never shot before nor are familiar with. We limit the students in this course to six so as to have more one on one time with the instructor to help with proper technique but also to ingrain the firearm safety rules.

For any other course you should be familiar with your firearm and have a firm understanding of the firearm safety rules. If you have never taken a training course and are not confident in taking a course it might be better to start on the Introduction to Handgun course.

What safety precautions are taken during your courses to help each other feel safe while learning.

Safety is our number one priority with every course. We cover all the firearm safety rules as well as the range rules prior to the start of a course. Everyone is also able to call a cease fire or bring something to our attention should they see or feel something unsafe and we encourage them to do so.

What holsters are allowed in your courses?

We don't allow SERPA due to a higher probability of a negligent discharge during the draw.

We don't allow cross draw or shoulder holsters since a person will flag (point barrel of gun) at their neighbor on the firing line when drawing.

We don't allow leather as most will become malleable after a short period of time which can result in a negligent discharge when holstering.

We HIGHLY recommend people use their everyday carry equipment when training. That includes using an IWB holster if you conceal carry as becoming proficient with your carry equipment is critical when using such equipment in a self defense encounter.

We have a few holsters which we recommend and sell on our website but there are hundreds of great brands which someone can bring to a course.

When looking for a quality holster consider the following attributes:

  • Protects the trigger - This means it covers the trigger guard completely while allowing the magazine release to function while the gun is holstered.
  • Retain gun in holster - A holster should have active or passive retention which allows the gun to stay put unless intentionally accessing.
  • Easily Accessible - Should allow a master grip to be established (can wrap fingers around without having to un-holster) without having to initiate the draw. The location of the holster should allow the gun to always be within arms reach with little to no effort.
  • Quality Material - Should be made of durable material, either injection molded polymer or Kydex usually is best, which can take abuse and last years. Your holster should also have clips which have a positive grip on your belt of pants in order to have the holster stay put during the draw.

If you have any concerns or questions about the holster you are considering to bring to a course please contact us and we can let you know.

How old do you have to be to take a course?

The general rule is students must be at least 21 years old, and due to the Department of State and ITAR regulations, firearm training is only available to US Citizens/Legal Residents.

Anyone under the age of 21 years old can take a private course from us but are not allowed to take an open enrollment course. However, there are special circumstances where someone under the age of 21 years old could take a course but we would need to interview them beforehand. Please contact us for more information.

Where can I get ammo for your courses? Do you sell ammo?

We recommend using ammoseek.com to find your ammo guaranteed in stock. This is a compiler website which pulls listings from across the web and displays them all in one location. You can sort by caliber, grain weight, case type and many other filters. Be sure to order well in advance of the course date so as to receive it in time. Also, double check the retailer you are purchasing from by reviewing the feedback left of ammoseek.

If you need the ammo sooner we can help. When available, we do offer ammo to our students in the course listing. If there is no option in the course listing than we are sold out and can point you in the right direction a local retailer. Please use the contact form to get more information.
