Proficiency Matters!

We believe that the Concealed Carry Standard represents the minimum level of proficiency that someone should have in order to be a competent concealed carrier. While it is not impossible to pass, it does present a challenge that requires dedicated effort and practice. Without the skills needed to meet this standard, there is a risk of failure when using a firearm in self-defense. Although it's impossible to know what the odds of failure may be, we believe that it's important to strive for excellence and be as prepared as possible.

Our intention in creating this standard was not to simply raise the bar, but to provide a clear and measurable benchmark that handgun owners can use to assess their own proficiency. Ultimately, the goal is to demonstrate a high level of skill and competence with a handgun. We developed this standard with four key factors in mind:

01

Precision versus Practical

Precision is a critical element of successful firearms use, where the accuracy of each shot can make all the difference in a high-pressure situation. A well-placed shot can be the key to success, while a missed shot could have devastating consequences.

In contrast, practical shooting emphasizes the importance of hitting the center mass of the target in order to neutralize a threat quickly and efficiently. While this approach doesn't require pinpoint accuracy or small point-of-aim, it does require shooters to keep all rounds within a designated area or "box" to ensure that the threat is effectively eliminated. By focusing on both precision and practical shooting skills, shooters can develop the ability to neutralize a threat quickly and with minimal risk to themselves or others."

02

Grip

A proper grip on a handgun is essential for accurate and effective shooting, particularly in high-pressure situations where multiple rounds may need to be fired quickly at a potential threat. Without a good grip, the recoil from each shot can cause the gun to shift in the shooter's hand, making it difficult to reacquire the target and potentially leading to missed shots or inaccurate hits.

By contrast, a strong and consistent grip helps to ensure better control over the firearm, enabling the shooter to fire multiple rounds accurately and quickly without losing control or accuracy. Developing and maintaining a proper grip on a handgun is therefore an essential skill for all handgun owners to possess.

03

Trigger Control

This skill is crucial for achieving accurate and effective hits on target, and can be developed through practice and training.

Proper trigger control includes knowing exactly how many walls your trigger has and when it will break the final wall. Mastering trigger control is therefore a critical skill for all handgun owners to develop in order to improve their accuracy and effectiveness.

04

Reloads

Reloading skills are a critical component of handgun training that every handgun owner should master. Being able to reload quickly and efficiently in self-defense situations can be the difference between life and death.

Whether you run out of ammo or need to quickly troubleshoot a malfunction, the importance of mastering reloads in cannot be overstated.
